Samsung announced the Wave 578 way back in February, while this Bada powered Smartphone was touted for release on Q3 of this year. It seems like Singapore will be the first nation to get the taste of this NFC capable Smartphone. Interestingly, there aren’t too many Samsung phones in the market that currently sport the innovative NFC technology. According to SammyHub, the NFC powered Wave 578 will be priced at S$338 or €195, which is quite reasonable especially when you consider the rarity of NFC capable Smartphone’s available within the market.
However, sources do indicate that the by the time the innovative Wave 578 launches within Europe, mobile phone deals on this NFC Smartphone might well be far lesser that what we are seeing within the Asian market. The Samsung Wave 578 will run on the latest Bada 1.1 OS and will slot in a 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen, 100MB internal memory, 455MHz processor, 3MP fixed-focus camera, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS support, 3G connectivity with HSDPA working at 3.6Mbps, a 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio and a microSD card slot. While the handset unquestionably looks bare on features, but it’s the inclusion of the NFC technology that makes it a worthwhile buy.
With NFC, users can easily make financial transactions or payments on the go, while future NFC upgrades will allow NFC enabled handsets to even remotely control electronic items that come attached with NFC enabled electronic tags. With Samsung pricing the Wave 578 at $338, it’s quite clear that the firm wants NFC to first acquire mass appeal before the technology can be made a regular among most future Samsung phones. While the technology does actively promote transactions, pairing and sharing of devices, but there have been lingering concerns with security on NFC (Near field communication). During the early years of NFC development, Klemens Breitfuß and Ernst Haselsteiner did point out how the technology is vulnerable to data modifications. Fortunately, the latest NFC enabled handsets such as the Wave 578 will utilize high-layered cryptographic protocols that would invariable help NFC handsets maintain a secure channel.
