Android Market is all set to overturn Apple’s App Store by August 2011

With Android based Smartphone’s and Tablets selling like hot pancakes; it was simply inevitable for Android market to seize the top spot from Apple’s app store. While such an event comes as no surprise to market analysts, but official numbers predict that the takeover could be as soon as August 2011. Apple’s App Store has been on the fall right from Q1 of 2011, while Android at the same time has been on the rise. Now when you do combine both effects together, there is simply no stopping Android from taking over Apple’s most preserved crown. Even certain mobile phone reviews were quick to hint out at Apple fall and Android’s rise way back in 2010 when Google was shaping up for the onslaught for 2011 with great many Samsung phones, LG phones and Sony Ericsson phones being slated for release. Besides, telecom operators such as Vodafone, Virgin, 3, T-mobile etc have lot to gain from this battle through their internet data tariff plans.

One of the very first to predict Apple’s fall was App stores analytics Distimo who had little doubt whist making the announcement. Besides, Distimo’s findings got further approval when German based firm research2guidance safely concluded the fact that the ‘App Store’ will lose out to the ‘Android Market’ within coming August when Android market is predicted to hit 425,000 new apps. Recent numbers clearly show the difference in performance even more, with Android Market adding an incredible 28,000 new applications to its portfolio as opposed to the 11,000 of the App Store.

What Google has in its favor is that the Android market offers a much wider choice than the App store. However, having the most number of apps doesn’t really guarantee revenue as usually the best ones are the ones that fetch the most revenue. On the flip side, research conducted on behalf of research2guidance goes completely in the opposite direction as they conclude that the success of an app store is directly propionate to the performance of average developers.

Also, one can dispute that both stores cater to different users all together. While Apple have continuously looked to tap the premium segment of the market, Android on the other hand have been quite happy to take up mass marketing.
