Open source Google 3.0 could well be heading into Smartphone’s within this year
Despite Google happening to completely lock down the source code of Android 3.0, the operating system is still pronounced to be open sourced in the near future and will certainly be heading towards forthcoming Smartphone’s. Amazingly, the source of this information comes from Android chief Andy Rubin who happens to be presumably unhappy with many questioning the delay as a change in strategy.
On the flip side, OEM’s, developers and journalists don’t seem complete convinced with Andy Rubin’s statement as they reckon Google will eventually do a complete “U” turn on its open source principles in order to confront flaming fragmentation issues, more so like Apple. The bottom line is no one really seems happy with Google blocking entry into Android 3.0’s source code.
Then again, Engadget have reported Andy Rubin claiming about a no holds bar approach in relation to lock-downs or restraint s against customization of UIs. He has also suggested that there will be no effort made to homogenize the platform on any single chipset architecture.
Rubin was also stated saying that Google will indeed release the source codes of Android 3.0, but not before Honeycomb is completely ready for next generation Smartphone’s. Just recently, Google came under tremendous fire after they failed to release their tablet-focused Honeycomb code towards open-source communities. While company officials were reported saying that they were simply waiting for the Smartphone highlights to be finished, but in truth, Google never pledged criticism’s thrown at them.
As of now, Android’s main concern will be fragmentation issues that 87% of developers claim to be within Google’s Android operating system. Major players such as Samsung mobiles, LG and Motorola all of whom have certainly got the hardware resources to actually run Honeycomb code in its full glory. Even after knowing such scenarios, it’s simply baffling to see Android taking so long to come out with an official statement of Android 3.0 release on future Smartphone’s.
On 14th of February, Qualcomm announced that it will be introducing the latest generation of Snapdragon processors that will run comfortably at 2.5GHz per core meaning Smartphone’s can be optimized to run in close proximity with tablet PC’s. Even major telecom operators such as Vodafone, Virgin, 3Mobile etc will have a massive role to play on Android 3.0.
