Nokia E6 and X7-00 – First Smartphones to Run on Updated Symbian OS

The latest software update- Symbian Anna is on its way and the first mobile phones to use it will be Nokia X7-00 and Nokia E6. Nokia recently announced these handsets, which are expected to arrive in the market by the second quarter of 2011.

Though both the Nokia phones will run on same Symbian Anna platform, but the target market for each phone is different. E6 with its full QWERTY keyboard is targeted towards the business users. It will provide easy access to SharePoint, Communicator Mobile and Microsoft Exchange. On the other hand, X7-00 is more of an entertainment based device. It can capture high quality images and record HD quality videos. Furthermore, it comes loaded with HD games such as Asphalt 5 and Galaxy on Fire. The experience of watching movies or playing games over big 4-inche display screen would be a fabulous experience.

Nokia E6 is a QWERTY based handset, which is suitable for the texters to the core. If you are looking for a superior wide screen touch screen display, then it is better to opt for X7-00. E6 also boasts a touch screen, but it is of TFT capacitive variety and its size is just 2.46 inches, which is understandable because it needs to accommodate the physical keyboard.

Comparatively, X7-00 definitely possesses a better display, which is a 4.0 inches AMOLED capacitive touch screen. It provides 360 x 640 pixels resolution.

However, both Nokia X7-00 and E6 have one feature in common, which is the high quality camera. Both the mobile phones include an 8 mega pixel camera that is capable of clicking high quality shots at 3264 x 2448 pixels. The users can click excellent photos because of dual-LED flash, fixed focus, face detection and geo tagging. The devices also posses ability to shoot high quality videos at 720p @25fps.

Though both E6 and X7-00 runs on Symbian Anna OS, the processors are different. X7-00 is friendlier to high-end entertainment features because it gets the power of 680 MHz ARM 11 processor, 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and Ope, and Broadcom BCM2727 GPU. While E6 enjoys the support of 600 MHz ARM 11 processor, OpenGL ES 2.0 and 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1.

In the next few months, Nokia plans to provide software update with the latest version of Symbian to the other handsets such as C7, C6-01, E7 and N8.
