Android Sales Increase to Massive 1580% during 2009-10 Period
IDC European Mobile Phone Tracker recently revealed that the sales of Android mobile phones have witnessed a massive growth in the European market during the period of the fourth quarter of 2009 and the entire 2010. The percentage of sales is gigantic 1580% and it seems like the trend will continue to grow in 2011. Is this an indication that Android is going to rule the market of latest operating systems? This is definitely possible because the operating system is effectively increasing its supremacy in the market of smart phones that gives more value for money to the users.
According to the revealed statistics, it was noticed that for the first time Android sales have surpassed the figure of Apple and BlackBerry Operating System powered handsets. If this trend continues, Android will be regarded as the market leader of the mobile operating systems.
Francisco Jeronimo, the IDC European devices research manager said, “The last quarter of 2010 clearly shows the trends for the coming years in Western Europe. The Western European mobile phone market will be dominated by smart phones and Android will be king of the hill.”
In the fourth quarter of 2009, the sales-figure of Android was just 470,000 units and in comparison to that the sales figure in quarter four of 2010 was massive 7.9 million. This figure reveals how gigantically the sales of Android devices have increased in the last year. If you look at the percentage, you will find that the market share of Android brilliantly increased from 4% to amazingly high 31% when the year of 2010 ended. The trend is definitely not going to slow down with amazing set of units like Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC Incredible S and many more. There are several other high-end Android devices waiting to arrive in the market and it will definitely maintain the popularity of Android OS.
People are rapidly using Android functionalities and hence newer versions of the operating system are releasing at regular intervals. Many network operators are updating the handsets with older Android versions to the latest version. It is benefiting the users with more user-friendly functionalities and multitasking highlights.
