Samsung Galaxy S Sold Over 5 Millions Since Release
On Wednesday, October 6th, Samsung Electronics Company Ltd announced that, since its launch of the smartphone, Galaxy S, in June, this year, over 5 million handsets have been sold. Keeping in mind, the slacking sales of smartphones, this figure has challenged its bigger contenders like Apple Inc and Nokia.
Samsung, in spite of holding the world’s second rank in mobile manufacturing, has been badly effected due to the weak lineup of its smartphones. This is because, more and more consumers are increasingly turning towards the high-end section of phones, and their need is aptly met out by companies like Apple, with their introduction of iPhones, which started back in 2007.
Galaxy S was manufactured keeping in mind the technology and success of iPhone, and has hence been a big hit to the same. Powered by Google’s operating system of Android, it has seen a massive sale, globally. Distributed among 100 carriers all over the world, it also includes four major telecommunication operators of US.
This company from South Korea has done remarkably well in the smartphone section with Galaxy S, and is further expecting stronger sales to help it redeem the slowcoach pace of sales of its other smartphones. This sale will be a big helping hand for Samsung, to reach 25 million units in smartphone sales, which will lift its smartphone ranking to the fourth position, globally. The first three positions are occupied by Nokia, Research In Motion and Apple Inc. This will give the reputation of the house, a big boost, and will help it come out of its poor record with smartphones.
So far, Galaxy S has been the best of smartphones, among all its releases. Evidently, it has seen the best of sales among the same, which is equivalent to the total sale of smartphones, last year.
