Saudi-RIM talks seem promising

blackberry-bold-saudiBlackBerry manufacturers – Research in Motion – RIM breathed a sign of relief as Saudi Arabia praised progress in talks between RIM and the Saudi government.

The nation had earlier decided to ban the use of BlackBerry as they couldn’t control the messages that in BlackBerry’s case, is handled directly by the device itself. RIM was reeling with nervous perspiration when the Saudi government gave RIM a notice allowing them to dialogue with the government to reach an agreement.

RIM was however placed in an awkward situation as they attempted to battle between the desires of the nation and their own policy and rights. The Middle Eastern nation has over 700,000 BlackBerry users – the most amongst any of the countries in the Gulf.

After a lot of talk that went back and forth, a state run news organisation reported that the government had decided to allow the continual of BlackBerry services.

The Communication and Information Telecommunication commission (CITC) told the media that the discussion was going well and that they would continue to work with the regulators until the issue was entirely resolved and a solution arrived at.

Saudi Arabia was just a few among their many doubtful neighbours who expressed concern over BlackBerry’s services. UAE and India too publically admitted to being apprehensive about the BlackBerry. They were afraid that the brand’s encrypted messaging system that unlike Nokia and Apple operated its own network, would pose a danger to society and maybe even national security.
