O2 Eco Rating lists LG as least environmentally friendly


LG EtnaLG were in the news but for the wrong reasons, as six of their phones appeared in the O2 list of ten least eco friendly phones.

The Korean mobile phone manufacturing unit, with this unfavourable publicity, can only hope that it will not damage their already sinking mobile phone popularity. However, in a time like this when the environment is a matter of great concern on everyone’s mind, one cannot be so hopeful.

The O2 Eco Rating is based on a lot of factors from the packaging to the raw materials, taking elements like energy efficiency and its re-usability and recycling into consideration. Sources from inside the O2 team said that research done by them showed that around 44 per cent of (potential) mobile buying customers considered a mobile devices environmental consciousness before making a purchase.

sony_ericsson_elm_greenheartSony Ericsson’s Elm phone made it to the top of the most environmentally friendly mobile hand set list with a rating of 4.3 out of 5. Three of Nokia’s finest – the Nokia 6700, Nokia C7 and Nokia 1800, along with Samsung GT-S8500 and three of Sony Ercisson best – Zylo, Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro, all rated 4 out of 5 in the O2 environmentally friendly list. Sony Ericsson’s Vivaz Pro and the Nokia E500 both brought up the rear in the ‘top ten’ list with a rating of 3.9.

In the least environmentally list or the ‘bad boys list’, LG Etna placed the lowest beating Palm Pre Plus by a whimper at a rating of 2.7. LG Chocolate, LG Cookie and HTC HD2 were marked with a 2.9 rating. LG GT 350 (3.1), LG GW300 (3.1) and the LG GT 540 (3.2) also made appearances on the list, along with Samsung C3050 (3.1) and Sony Ericsson’s Satio (3.2).
