Last minute talks between RIM and India
An invitation to talks between BlackBerry makers Research in Motion and Indian security authorities was reported to have been accepted and scheduled for today.
The talks are being held days before the deadline of 31 August that had been given to RIM to come up with a feasible technical solution to the concerns posed by the Indian government. India had in a statement said that they would ban the use of the BlackBerry if no solution was presented by this date. Talks between the two parties however were said to have been going well, as reported earlier, but no report has been received on whether a solution had been derived yet.
India is the second largest BlackBerry user in the world, after China. And a ban on the services of the BlackBerry could have a devastating effect on the company on a global level.
However, for some reason no one posses the question of the damage that the ban could have on India. The developing country is in the process of climbing up the global ladder with technological advancements and developments playing a major role in this process. A ban on the BlackBerry could be seen as a fall back on the technological standing of the nation.
The BlackBerry was earlier found to be instrumental in the Mumbai terrorist attack in 2008 that recorded a devastating toll of 166 dead. The Indian security officials are worried that the system of encrypted of data transfer that makes for high security and cannot be accessed by the government.
The BlackBerry in this way has been a target with a lot of world governments with concern like a nation’s security being quoted right down to the possible risk of the peddling of pornography. Most of the countries are asking for access to the encrypted data.
