BlackBerry to join touch screen technology club
Research in Motion (RIM) – the makers of BlackBerry – announced that they were all set to launch the first touch screen BlackBerry device.
The BlackBerry Touch 9800, as it is called, is bound to be RIM’s response to the Apple iPhone 4 that went on sale earlier this year. The BlackBerry and Apple have also been at competitive edges with each other, owing to the deluxe brand name that they both have. The Apple however has lately been receiving a lot of negative press, something that may be of immense advantage to the BlackBerry as they launch their new handset.
The innovative Blackberry Touch 9800 will be available in stores from August 12 with its exclusive carrier partner AT&T Inc.
The device will have a keyboard that slides out and will function on the BlackBerry 6 Operating System. It will be the first device to run on this OS. It will have a retail cost of $199.99 along with a two years service agreement.
RIM had earlier launched a touch screen device – Storm, however it did not do well in the market and was plagued with problems. Storm 2 was brought in that fixed a number of the problems, but the market was still not happy. The device was said to be lacking against higher opponents like Apple and Google, who were booming in the touch screen market.
The slow and time staking climb that RIM has indulged in towards the perfection of touch screen technology has played against the popularity of the BlackBerry in an audience that was swept clean by the first iPhone that came out around three years ago.
A lot of other devices are set to launch from all around the world, making the last few boulders towards the top of the RIM’s mountain even more difficult and competitive.
