BBC Free News Application for Apple Products launched in UK
With an eye on the news hungry consumers, a BBC News Application designed for Apple iPhone and iPad which was recently developed, was launched in the UK according to an announcement made by the British news giant.
The application which can be downloaded without any formal costs was scheduled to be launched in April 2010 itself.
The BBC trust which administers the organization was on a mission to assess the existing proposals and analyse the impact of the application on the rest of the industry. Consequently, the launch got delayed.
Applications aimed at syndicating with devices such as the highly popular Android phones are all set to be released sometime later this year.
A formal announcement by the organization also hinted at releasing similar applications for BBC Sport and iPlayer.
According to the managing committee of the BBC trust, the applications do not violate the existing provisions prevalent within the organization ruling out the necessity to further conduct any investigation.
Other news organizations are also there in the existing market with similar applications which are free to download.
The Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA) expressed apprehensions that the organization would damage the new market in similar kind of applications by releasing a free to download application.
The newspaper industry is extremely insecure about the development with a lot of the organizations harping on revenues available from other platforms other than the print medium. A lot of these organizations fear that by entering the domain of mobile communication, BBC would exploit its unique position to exploit all the advantages.
But none of them could actually deny the crude fact that BBC can not also probably ignore this increasingly menacing sector and consequently it entered the scene with a bang.
According to BBC insiders, the international news platform would virtually be in shambles unless and until it integrate the new media in its fold of activities.
There was also a call from the other news organizations to block this application the moment it becomes available according to reports available.
With huge stakes up for grabs, all is slated for a major competition which is growing to brew up over the next few months.
