Droid X – an attempt to melt the iPhone fever
Verizon, Motorola and Google join hands to battle premier mobile giant Apple and its latest iPhone 4 that hit the markets last Wednesday. The three brands announced that they plan to commence sales for the Droid X next month.
Motorola Co-chief Executive Sanjay Jha in comments to the media on Wednesday said that they is a huge demand for the Droid X.
The Droid X is a touch screen model with a 4.3 inch display and an 8 megapixel camera. Verizon Wireless, a Verizon Communication venture, stated confidently that they see a lot of potential in this model and has in that regard backed the product completely. The Droid X will also be using Google’s Android software. In addition to that, the phone has a high definition, almost sophisticated, music player that should make it efficient for multimedia purposes.![]()
John Stratton, Verizon Wireless’ Chief Marketing Officer told the media that he has a massive marketing campaign planned for the Droid X. His goal, he said, was to ensure that the model sells faster than the sales of the first Droid. The first Droid was reported to have sold around 2 million units within a quarter of a year after its launch.
The phone, set to go on sale on 15th July, will be sold for $199.99. However customers taking a two year contract will get a discount of up to $100 on the sale. The Droid X will also support Abode software and will allow users to buy and rent movies at only $9.99 and $3.99 from Blockbusters Incorporated through the internet. This is one of the few limitations of the Apple iPhone 4 and a victory for the Motorola Droid X.
Verizon Wireless also hopes to induce a lot of people into a ‘Droid X purchase’ by allowing users unlimited data download for only $29.99 a month.
