Mobiles.co.uk come top in poll of consumer ratings
We have just had a general election, David and Nick are skipping along Downing street whilst holding hands on their way to number 10. The rest of us our just glad its over and done with! It did get us thinking though, If political parties were mobile phone retailers who would come out top? To answer the question we thought we would do our own poll. Back in October 2008 we added functionality to our main website which allowed our users to leave comments about mobile phone retailers and give them an overall rating. We have analyzed the data and the results make an interesting read, I will try and keep it simple!
In total we have had 220 consumer reviews and ratings submitted in the last 18 months or so. Its not the biggest poll in the world but I can assure you the responses are genuine and not made up to suit a particular retailer. Below is a breakdown showing which retailers the reviews were submitted on.
What stands out straight away is that the majority (72%) of consumer reviews were submitted about mobiles.co.uk. If these were political parties we wouldn’t be in a hung parliament situation. The other 4 retailers make up the remaining 28%, surprisingly nobody submitted a review for ‘The Link’. These figures on there own don’t really tell us much, for sure we could maybe assume that mobiles.co.uk have more customers than The Link. Or the other way of looking at it is that mobiles.co.uk have annoyed more customers than the other retailers. Like I said, there are different ways of interpreting the results. We have to look at the consumer ratings to get a true picture, check them out below.
Theres not really much to say about the results as they speak for themselves. According to our readers mobiles.co.uk come top by quite a margin with an average rating of 3.79 out of a possible 5. What is surprising is that CarphoneWarehouse scored quite badly, but our the same company as mobiles.co.uk. We included The Link in the results as there were in the Poll from the beginning and it was possible for our users to add a review and rating. From what we know about the mobile phone market we suspect this is down to their very small market share. Dialaphone came in a respectable second place with a score of 2.57. One thing we must remember is that in any of these types of polls, consumers only write and rate when disgruntled, not many will praise even when extremely happy. I was surprised at the amount of detailed reviews and ratings mobiles.co.uk got, they must be doing something right, read the reviews for yourself, you can tell their genuine.
I guess a congratulations is in order to mobiles.co.uk. We will repeat this poll again at christmas 2010 to see if there is any change in consumer opinion. We will be adding more retailers to our next poll, if you want to suggest one please contact us. To read the consumer reviews and ratings on the retailers follow the links below:-
