HTC Google Nexus One released on Vodafone
Vodafone are giving their customers the new Google Nexus One for free as long as they take out a 2 year contract on the phone. It will be available from the 30th April but anyone wishing to sign up can do so now. They will be the first company in Europe to start supplying the Nexus One to customers even though it has been available in the US since January.
Google have tried to compete with the Apple iPhone but the iPhone has a lot more applications for Android services even though the Nexus One is faster it still doesn’t live up to the capabilities of the iPhone. Another competitor is the HTC Desire which is available with a number of networks in the UK, this Android phone has had much better reviews from the critics.
Customers in the US who experienced problems with the Nexus had to email the customer services team but didn’t get a response for days, this has now been rectified with a free phone customer service number, this was the reason for the delay in releasing the phone in the UK.
When the Nexus one was first released in the US is was sold unlocked so customer could use there own sim card in it, you could also purchase the phone from Europe and have it shipped over. Google have now adapted the phone for a few US networks including AT&T, this is to reduce the consumer issues.
You can pay a one off amount for the Nexus to reduce your contact length so if pay £59 for the phone you will get monthly line rental for £30 a month for 18 months or pay £99 and get the line rental for £30 a month for 18 months, you can choose not to pay the one off fee but your line rental will be £40 a month. For the 2 year contracts you pay £59 and then £30 a month or £99 and then £25 a month. Vodafone had added 1 Gigabyte of free mobile data as part of the deal.
