Samsung’s ‘galaxy’ has been hitting news headlines in mobile world. Its upgraded version is to hit the market as Samsung Galaxy Spica, model i5700, as the second Android mobile phone from Samsung’s stable. This model is going to have quite similar look in general appearance with little modification of control keys. Spica appears to be associated with Bouygues Telecom, a French carrier. Hence, it is expected to be introduced first in French market.
Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 has 800 MHz CPU like the Omnia-II. Anticipatory outcome of this feature is better performance of model than older version Galaxy with 528 MHz CPU. Access to the web is enabled with Wi-Fi and GPS receivers. Screen is same AMOLED captive touch, the one use in Galaxy. Spica is enabled to support both 2G and 3G networks. In fact it is a 3G handset that backs up HSDPA network of 900/2100/ 1700. It also backs up quad band GSM network 850/900/1800/1900.
This set may have noteworthy memory of its predecessor, like 8 gigabytes of internal storage and 128 megabytes of RAM. The memory was expandable up to 16 gigabytes using memory card. This goes in favour of users to store loads of images, videos, music and other downloads. It appears that Galaxy Lite version will have 1GB internal storage capacity along with microSD slot.
There is built-in HTML web browsing facility. For speedy downloads and data transfer it is supported with WLAN Wi-FI, GPRS, HSCSD, 3G HSDPA and EDGE technologies. Transfer to other devices is possible via Micro USB 2.0 and Bluetooth. This set is provided with total messaging facilities including emailing. Entertainment on the set is provided with built-in Java™ MIDP 2.0 gaming facility. However, FM radio is missing from the set.
Spica is expected to have rich feature of 5 mega pixel auto-focusing camera to let viewers enjoy resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels images. The camera is to include LED flash and geo tagging features. Video recording enabled camera on the set helps capturing video footage. But, there is no second camera for video calling. Video player supports video files formats like MP4, WMV, H.263 and H.264. Spica will have compatible music player for supporting MP3, e-AAC+, WMA and RA music files.
How many of these of speculated or claimed feature come really in Spica remain to be seen after it comes to the market.
